Every vehicle should be equipped with the accessories useful in case of a battery malfunction. It is especially important during the autumn and the winter, when temperatures drop below zero. Jumpstart cables definitely qualify as such necessary accessories.
How to use them? Sequence of cable connection is of big importance if we want the whole operation to be conducted safely.
We must remember that the entire operation must be done with the engine of the donor car turned off.
First, we connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the donor car. We must put extra attention, that the other end of it shall not touch any metal object of the car body. That may cause an electrical short and damage the electrical systems of the donor car. Taking that into consideration, we connect the other end of the red cable to the „receiver” car positive terminal.
Next, we connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the donor car, and then, to the „mass” of the energy receiving car, which stands for ground, that may be some unpainted chassis or drivetrain elements, such as the exposed unpainted body internal crevices or i.e. engine cylinder head.
If everything has been plugged in correctly, we start up the donor car and leave it at idle.
Now we can safely try to start up the energy receiver vehicle. We shall succeed if its battery is not damaged or deeply discharged.
In case the car still won’t start after a couple of attempts, it might be necessary to call up the Battery Emergency 24
For the very end, one must remember to disconnect the cables in a reverse order of installation, simultaneously remembering not to short them with each other. We disconnect the black cable from the receiver car ground, then from the donor can negative terminal, then we disconnect the red cable from the receiver’s positive terminal and finally from the donor’s positive terminal.
